Natthaphon Chaiworawat

Founder | Head of Project

Natthaphon Chaiworawat (Bon / 1986) was born and raised in a Chinese family in Bangkok. Most of his childhood was far away from his family. He therefore learned the experience from boarding school since kindergarten until high school (Grade 9), and spend his time with his family during the semester breaks. Since his family was running a business and was not having time to spend for each other, thus Natthaphon spent most of time playing with his neighborhood friends and became the ringleader of the boy gang in the alley.

Nonetheless, Natthaphon is a person who loves education since childhood. He always finishes his homework during school hours (in order to have more time to play with his friends after school).

In his teens, he chose to study science-mathematics in a new high school. After he graduated from Matthayom 6, he then decided to enter the entrance exam at the Faculty of Fine Arts at a famous university in the Sam Yan district, despite the fact that he received the nation’s highest score in Physics in that year’s examination. His absurd reason was he wondered if he could study in art.

During his studies there, Natthaphon met Premika for the first time as a friend who did joint faculty activities together. But shortly after that, Natthaphon resigned in order to practice percussion at home for one full year and he suddenly changed his mind again for photography studies at a university in Muang Ake Village. From there Natthaphon became familiar with Kanchit and supported each other ever since.

Nattapon spent 3 years to receive a bachelor's degree with first class honors and decided to go to France immediately afterward in order to continue his study in Visual Art, despite having no foundation of French language. But he did not give up on the 3rd language training. He completed his 3-year course in just 2 years and received a scholarship to study in Germany.

During his studies there, he had an opportunity to meet Boris Nieslony, an artist who dedicated his life toward collecting performance art archive from around the world. Natthaphon was inspired and was reminded of his struggles when he was studying in Thailand with the lack of art books that contain the process of art production.

Natthaphon gathered some knowledge and experience from his studies in Germany for 3 years and returned to Thailand in 2018 after graduating as Meisterschüler. Then Natthaphon had an opportunity to meet Premika again after 12 years. He described the intention to create Open Source Online Archive platform that will be a well organized and systematically records art database for the public practical use in Thailand. From then, Premika introduced him to Rod and Anita.

In 2019, Natthaphon had the opportunity to meet Asst. Prof. Nithipat and Natnaran as a guest lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Architecture. King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. Natthaphon was granted funding from Thai Media Fund to create Open Source Online Archive. Then he decided to persuade both of them to join the Open Source Art Performance as team members with Premika, Kanchit, Rod, and Anita.
